The commitment of BMI for providing a quality service for our policyholders becomes more evident with the launch of the tests Oncoclever, a panel of 162 genes for the precision diagnosis and management of hereditary cancer, tests that are performed in Costa Rica.
During the activity where this new examination panel was presented, attendees had access to the development of several talks including: “Hereditary cancer, diagnostic suspicion” given by Dr. Juan Carlos Villalta, geneticist, as well as “Oncoclever Tool” provided by Dr. Ana Sittenfeld and finally “Mutations in genes associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in Costa Rica” with Dr. Geiner Jiménez, from the CCSS genetic-oncological council project.
Echandi Laboratories also shared at the event its achievement with the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Unit, which obtained perfect results for two consecutive years in the CAP (College of American Pathologists) external quality control for the detection of mutations in the BRCA 1 and 2 genes.
What is the OncoClever panel?
This is a germline or hereditary cancer study, which is carried out satisfactorily in the Echandi laboratory, it helps detect variants in 162 genes involved in this disease. Among the studies that you can do are:
- The breast, ovary and endometrium panel
- The gastrointestinal panel
- prostate panel
- BRCA 1 AND 2 Test
- Comprehensive panel: includes all genes associated with hereditary cancer. List of 162 genes.
